Queensland Garden Expo is a ‘must see’ in 2016 for green thumbs and novice gardeners alike. Held in the Sunshine Coast hinterland town of Nambour from 8th to 10th July, this three day expo is Queensland’s premier gardening event attracting 35,000 + visitors from all over Australia and New Zealand. Some of Australia’s leading Gardening experts take part in three days of lectures, demonstrations and workshops.

See plants, plants and more plants with over 55 nurseries represented and over 360 exhibitors. There is a full program of free lectures and demonstrations on eight “live” stages every day covering a vast array of gardening topics. Head to the ‘Gardeners and Gourmets’ stage for some great tips on growing your own produce and turning it into delicious gourmet meals. The ‘Giant Kitchen Garden’ features a totally organic food court with a fully planted sustainable garden constructed onsite. Get free help with gardening problems and plant identification from the onsite Plant Clinic and be inspired by the fantastic arrangements in the Floral Design Competition.

History

The Sunshine Coast Branch of the Nursery & Garden Industry held the inaugural Expo 31 years ago, with the aim of providing the general public with expert advice and information on a range of gardening subjects in an enjoyable and accessible format.

This first event, in 1985, was a one day event with 30 exhibitors, 300 visitors, 5 workshops and a Plant Clinic. Guided by a dedicated group of volunteers the event quickly grew over the ensuing years to become the 3 day event it is today.

Gardening is always rated in the top 3 or 4 most favoured recreational activities and the fact that the Expo continues to grow in size and visitor numbers indicates that it is still as relevant now as it was 31 years ago.

We installed artificial grass in our back yard four years ago, thinking it would be low maintenance and easy for cleanup after our Beagle. Wrong decision! Despite lies from the landscaper that the grass was dog friendly and us subsequently spending a fortune on chemicals from different companies that promised to remove odour from the grass, we never could get rid of that pee smell. And walking barefoot on it summer midday was like fire walking. Adam and his crew at Glenview Turf to the rescue! Adam surveyed the yard and after considering the partial tree shading and presence of puppy, recommended Sir Walter Raleigh Buffalo. We were impressed every step of the way, from the reasonable quote, to removal of the fake grass and bedding, to installation of new soil base and beautiful new green turf to final cleanup. And the landscaping team were efficient and happy. Even the skip guy was friendly and efficient, delivering the skip 10 minutes before the job started, and picking up an hour after the crew left. Wow, talk about service with a smile! We are now sprinkling every day, and loving the fresh grass smell and cool breeze. Thank you Glenview Turf!!!
